Student checklist

Our student checklist covers all enrollment and eligibility requirements as well as potential financing options for prospective students pursuing our program. If you haven’t already, we recommend joining us for a discovery flight where you will experience first-hand what our pilots experience every day.

ENROLLMENT

• Apply to Lake Superior College and submit all required materials listed on the website.

• When you receive your acceptance letter, you will be invited to a SOAR session (Student Orientation/ACCUPLACER/Registration). At this session, we will cover policy information, registration information, administer placement testing, and register you for classes.

• Register for Classes

  • Registration for all students is now open. Fall semester classes begin August 25, 2025.

ELIGIBILITY

• Obtain Second Class Medical Certification (See FAA MedXPress Programs for Pilots)

• Contact Lake Superior Helicopters at admissions@heli-co.com or 218-461-2857 to find out how to obtain your Student Pilot Certificate.

• TSA Security Requirements

  • US Citizen: Proper Documentation such as driver’s license and a birth certificate, or a passport

  • Non-US Citizen: Contact us for more information.

FINANCING

• Go to www.fafsa.gov and complete the FAFSA Application.

• Apply for scholarships exclusive to students in our program.

• Apply for financial aid through Lake Superior College.

• Private student alternative loans may be needed to cover flight costs.

• VA Students: Contact 1-800-GIBILL1 to get started.
