Fall Colors Out of Beaver Bay

Fall Colors Are Coming!

We at Lake Superior Helicopters would just like to keep everyone up to date on the leaf cycle. Here in the Duluth/Superior area the canopy is still dominated by green but the orange and reds are starting to become more prevalent. As you travel up the North Shore the trees bearing autumnal colors almost equal those which are still green. For a map showing the color changes visit: MNDNR Map of Fall Colors

Starting this next weekend, October 3, 2009 we should have finalized paperwork enabling us to give tours out of another location approximately one hour northeast on Highway 61. This, combined with the cool weather predicted this week should make for excellent leaf viewing opportunities. Sky Harbor Tours

Over Labor Day weekend we kicked off our operation out of Sky Harbor Airport located at the end of Park Point with an outstanding success. We offer a 16 mile tour from the Sky Harbor Airport over the Duluth/Superior area getting you bird’s eye view some of the most popular landmarks including the Aerial Lift Bridge. Come See the Maple!

September is here and we are starting to see the reds, oranges, and yellows peaking out amongst the green landscape. The view of the autumn leaves from a helicopter is unparallel by any other aircraft due to a combination of several things including the enormous viewing area and altitude at which they fly. Congratulations Lt. Tom Phingsten!

Lake Superior Helicopters would like to congratulate 1st Lt. Tom Phingsten of the Minnesota Department of Natural Recourses on receiving his Commercial Rotorcraft License add-on. We tailor all of our training to our student’s goals and Lt. Phingsten was no different receiving his rating within three weeks. Although this accelerated training is not for everyone, there are those who do not have the time to work on a rating for several months making this a great option.
