Commercial License Lake Superior Helicopters

Once you receive your private license, your time in the helicopter can then be logged as Pilot In Command (P.I.C.) time. Minimum P.I.C. time is one of the prerequisites you will encounter when looking for a job in the helicopter industry.

The commercial license is the next step on the professional helicopter pilot's path to success. This is required to fly for hire. In addition to making your maneuvers you learned training for your private pilot license more precise, your commercial training will introduce you to advanced helicopter maneuvers. Your ground training will include advanced helicopter aerodynamics as well as the rules and regulations governing commercial helicopter operations. During your commercial flight training a greater emphasis is placed on professionalism, helicopter power management, off-airport landings including pinnacles and confined areas where your good judgment will be honed.

Some students may opt to include an instrument rating during the commercial training. This is a great way to build the FAA required 100 P.I.C. hours you need for your commercial license being in many cases students arrive at the commercial competency level before they reach the 100 P.I.C. hours. Generally speaking, the flight time for your commercial pilot course is based on how many hours it takes to get your private license. It typically requires 80 to 115 hours of additional hours of flight time, 20 of which is required to be with a flight instructor. The actual amount of dual training depends on your choice of additional training modules.
